Based on the critically acclaimed memoir by Amy Liptrot, The Outrun is a scorchingly honest drama about addiction, recovery and what it means to return home. Four-times Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan as Rona embodies the character on the page in a fractured story about survival, place and the solace of nature.
After a decade of living life on the edge in London, 29-year-old Rona comes home to the Orkney Islands. Sober but lonely, she tries to suppress her memory of the events which set her on this journey of recovery. Slowly the mystical land enters her inner world and – one day at a time – Rona finds hope and strength as she immerses herself in the extremes of this ancient landscape. The screenplay was co-written by Amy Liptrot and the film's director Nora Fingscheidt.
The Outrun will be released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on 27 September 2024.
